| Notes |
"Henry Schelling was born October 9, 1935 in Neckarbischeim in Grosshersogturn, Baden. Heilbron Heidelburg along the Necar River. He came to America and settled in the Lancaster, PA area. "Henry was a soldier in the Civil War. He was paid by a dragtee to take his place. This was a common practice at that time. He worked as a wheel-wright. After his release from the Civil War he returned to Lancaster, PA. "In Laancaster, Henry met Emma Havercamp from the Kingdom of Holland where she was born March 8, 1841. They soon married and had three sons, Heinrick Herman, born May 20 1869 in Lancaster, and died June 3 1869, also in Lancaster The family then left Pennsylvania and moved to Peoria, IL. "Frederick Wilhelm was born January 23, 1876 in Peoria. On December 8, 1880 another son, Emil, was born. "Heinrick's wife Emma died March 15, 1883. What became of Henry's two young sons after he married Christina I do not know. Perhaps they were raised by another family member. I had never heard of these boys as living with Christina and Henry. "Henry Schelling learned the wood-working craft in Germany. That is how he became the maker of wooden wheels during the Civil War. When he moved to Peoria he went to work as a carpenter for Truedale Manufacturing Company and later became a cabinet-maker. He worked for thirteen years at Truesdales. He then worked at Wahfeld Wood Work Manufacturing Co. from 1896 until his death in 1904." )"The Schmidgall Story")
