Grandmother Kimball | Grandmother Kimball, who died when I was two years old, in contrast to grandfather, was a very vivacious women. She dearly loved to "go places" and as mother has often said, she was always ready to put on her bonnet and start on a trip, long or short! She outlived grandfather by seven years. She too died in Woburn in 1859. Notes in the diaries of Uncle Israel, from 1855 to 1859 record frequent trips that she made between Woburn, Portsmouth and Wells. In Oct 1855 when seventy three years old she made the trip alone from Woburn to Ft. Wayne Ind. to see her three sons who were living there (Wilbury, Benj. and Sam'l) Ten fine sone all reaching manhood, all reflected honor on their parents who must have been enerjetic and resourceful as wall as devout christian character. Judge I.G.K. says in his biography that each boy as he grew up in the old house was taught to help mother in cooking and other work of the house in the absence of daughters to render such asistance. They were worthy sons of worthy parents. (James Melvin Kimball 1934) |
