• Notes

  Sissel Jakobsdatter's mother was probably Martha (Marite) Ormsdatter Byre, although some sources say she was Martha's niece, Birgitte Tormodsdatter Foss. The latter seems to be chronologically impossible as Sissel had a son who was born between 1595 and 1600, while Birgitte could not have been born until after 1580. If this is correct, it would have been impossible for Birgitte to have been Sissel's mother.
